Wondering where to holiday with kids in Thailand? Try Hua Hin. Read on to find itinerary inspiration and loads of activities to choose from.
It’s close to Bangkok, so it’s easily accessible by private car transfer from the city centre or direct from the airport.
There’s a beach and lots of beachfront resorts.
There’re family resorts, water parks, shopping malls, and national parks to explore.
Hua Hin is a great destination for families who have recently moved to Bangkok and need an escape from the city.
Take Friday off, leave as early as you can, finish off a bit of work in the car ride down and begin your weekend escape as soon as you get out of the car and roll your suitcase to check-in.
How to make the most of your weekend escape:
#1 Maximise time: Avoid Bangkok traffic
Traffic in Bangkok and Hua Hin can add an extra hour or two to your trip. Leaving early in the morning will make a difference. You can eat breakfast as soon as you check in. There are also lots of places to stop and grab a snack and coffee along the way.
#2 Have a basic itinerary planned
There’s lots to see and do in Hua Hin even though it’s small. There are activities that will suit all budgets and ages. Scroll down for our suggested itineraries and find the activities for you and your family.
#3 Make reservations
There are some attractions in Hua Hin that are becoming more popular. To save disappointment we recommend making reservations. If you plan on visiting Monsoon Valley Winery, especially over the weekend, reserve a table. To save money you can purchase tickets in advance for the water park but if you stay at the Holiday Inn it’s free. For those who want to try kitesurfing or sailing, book your weekend lessons over email.
For the adventurous family:
Try sailing, take a kitesurfing lesson, go to the water park, spend the day exercising and swimming, visit an elephant sanctuary, explore a vineyard and have lunch overlooking the grapevines; shop and eat at the night markets.

Little ones wake up early, so a walk along the beach as the sunrises is the perfect morning activity before of after breakfast to start the weekend. The water is shallow and is perfect for safely splashing.
Vana Nava Water Jungle just opened a new kids zone that is the perfect aquatic playground for toddlers and babies. Whaley Port is a kids’s activity zone in BluPort Mall Hua Hin. Read about Whaley port and Vana Nava Water Jungle here. Both places are suitable for older and younger kids.

Extra Info on Hua Hin
A 2-3 hour drive from Bangkok or enough time to start binge watching a new Netflix show.
Pack the family in a van and head off for the weekend to a coastal resort town. With its rich royal history, beautiful sunrises, beachfront location and up-and-coming design and art community, Hua Hin should be on your Bangkok-weekend-escape radar.
The Feel and Atmosphere:
It’s laid-back. It’s by the sea. It’s got a developing artsy vibe.
It’s a popular destination for Thai families, expats and foreigners. So, there’s something here for everyone. There’s a burgeoning art and design community. The beach clubs, cocktail bars and infinity pools rival those in Seminyak, Bali.
In the past this coastal village became the place to be for royals and the Thai nobility, now it’s an expanding food, art, and culture community. Get a taste of it at the Cicada night markets. Wander through stacks of canvases by local artists, check out T-shirts, jewellery and bags by local designers.
It suits any budget
Hua Hin is both cheap and expensive. Seek out the price point that suits your budget. There’s affordable modern accommodation for families and luxury beachfront accommodation. You can dine at upscale western, Thai and European restaurants or eat market food wok-fried in front of you followed by coconut ice-cream and banana fritters for dessert.
Great for families, romantic strolls and kitesurfing
The beach is long and has flat compact sand, so it’s very popular for walking and running. There’re horses too!
Most people are up early for a morning stroll as the sun rises above the horizon. You’ll see monks in their saffron-colored robes walking along the beach on route to collect alms (usually offerings of food). There’s no surf here, so it’s good for paddles with little ones and quick dips in between sun bathing sessions.
For the adventurous, we recommend taking advantage of the great wind speeds and give kite surfing a go or try sailing.
There’s a jelly fish season in Hua Hin, so be careful from June to October, especially after it has rained.
Sunny, sunny and sunnier
Hua Hin is known for its seemingly endless sunny days. If you want to travel during the rainy season, its a safe bet that you’ll get little to no rain. It might rain in the morning, but the sky will clear and let the sun beam through in the afternoon to help you get that beach resort glow.
